Recovery phrase or secret numbers: what is the difference?
Both are a backup of an XRP Ledger account. A recovery phrase is 12 words and is what XRP Mobile creates. Secret numbers are 8 rows of 6 digits, the format Xaman uses. XRP Mobile imports either.
| Recovery phrase | Secret numbers | |
|---|---|---|
| Looks like | 12 English words in order | 8 rows (A to H) of 6 digits, 48 in total |
| Comes from | XRP Mobile and most wallets | Xaman (formerly Xumm) |
| Restores | XRP and your multichain balances | The XRP Ledger account |
| Error checking | The phrase validates as a whole | Every row has its own checksum |
Which should I use? Whatever your backup already is. A new wallet created in XRP Mobile always gets a 12 word phrase. If you are moving from Xaman, import with your secret numbers and the same account comes back with the same address.
One current limitation. A wallet imported with secret numbers cannot receive assets from other networks yet, only XRP. See Known limitations. If you need multichain assets, add a second wallet with a recovery phrase.
Can I have more than one wallet?
Yes. XRP Mobile holds as many wallets as you want, each with its own phrase and balance, and you switch between them by swiping on the home screen.
What does a swap cost?
A swap pays the XRP Ledger network fee, a provider fee that is shown on the confirmation screen and already included in the quote, and accepts up to 1% slippage. There is no separate XRP Mobile fee.
