My balance is 1 XRP lower than what I deposited
The XRP Ledger keeps a base reserve of 1 XRP in every account. The app shows what you can actually spend, so the reserve looks missing when it is simply locked.
How it shows up
- I deposited 10 XRP and the app shows 9
- 1 XRP is locked or unavailable in my wallet
- The explorer shows 1 XRP more than the app
- I sent 1 XRP to my new wallet and it shows 0 available
You can fix this yourself
No need to contact support: the steps below are the whole fix.
How support confirms it
- Look the address up on xrpscan.com: the Balance there includes the reserve, the app shows Balance minus 1 XRP (minus 0.2 XRP per trust line under Owner Count).
- If explorer balance minus reserve equals the app balance, nothing is missing: answer with this page.
What is going on
The XRP Ledger requires every account to keep a base reserve of 1 XRP on the ledger at all times. The reserve is not a fee and XRP Mobile does not take it: it stays in your account, it is just not spendable while the account exists. The ledger uses it to stop people from creating millions of empty accounts.
XRP Mobile shows your spendable balance with the reserve already deducted, because that is the number you can actually send or swap. The full amount, reserve included, is what you see on any XRP Ledger explorer.
Is it gone?
The reserve is not lost: it stays in your account. If you ever close the account (which needs a special transaction and is not something the app offers), most of it comes back. For everyday use, think of it as the deposit the ledger keeps for your account to exist.
What about more than 1 XRP?
Each trust line to another token on the XRP Ledger adds a small owner reserve on top (0.2 XRP each). If your locked amount is a little over 1 XRP, that is why.
Notifications never arrive
Push permission belongs to the phone, not the app, and iOS only asks for it once per install. If you said no during setup, the switch in the app cannot ask again: you allow it in the phone's settings.
Quote unavailable: I cannot get a quote to swap or send
A quote is a live route with real liquidity. It fails when the amount is right at the maximum, when it is under the provider's minimum for that asset, or when the route has no liquidity at that moment. Most cases are solved by changing the amount or waiting a few minutes.
